On a beautiful day in April of '93, I was riding my bicycle in the Hollywood Hills. I decided to pick some wild flowers for P. Marie's birthday. I arrived home only to be made aware that she had left town...![]() |
I threw the flowers within the pages of a phone book, and went about my business. A couple weeks later I found them. I removed the pressed and dried flowers from the pages and arranged them on a piece of paper. In the upper left quadrant of the page I wrote a verse for my Mother, Laminated it, and sent it to her for Mother's Day. It still hangs in her kitchen in Kirkwood, Missouri. I continued this sort of thing for about a year... |

It also became a rule that I would only use pressed and dried flower petals and leaves, and absolutely no artificial coloring, with the exception of the black masonite background. A number of portraits followed: Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, Billy Holliday, Marlin Brando, Melissa's Mother, and a special friend, Allyce Beasley and her son, Andrea.
